SOLUTIONS
There are many viable alternative uses for this site. The Town should retain ownership of all or most of the parcel so residents will benefit from this valuable asset forever.
-
A Small Commercial and Residential Development that Exemplifies the Spirit of the Town Center District
This would allow a portion of the overall site to be sold for the construction of a mixed use building that will add vibrancy to the Town Center with tenants like a restaurant, bakery and/or coffee shop for the first level and approximately 6-8 residential units above. This would provide significant flexibility to use the balance of the property for multiple purposes.
-
Restoration of Existing Beal School for a Residential Over 55 Condominium Complex
A nearly identical school re-use project is currently ongoing in the Town of Milford. This would not put a burden on the school system and would allow the Town to retain ownership of significant portion of the parcel. -
Innovation Center Collaborative for Entrepreneurs, Small Business People, Researchers, Artists
This would allow us to keep talent locally and provide affordable space to make ideas become reality. -
Expanded Public Parking
This will contribute to the goal of making the center of town more pedestrian friendly. -
Dog Park
This would be a nice addition to the community as pets are a big part of our lives.
-
Youth Center
Beal School could be used as a central meeting place for our youth to socialize, learn and engage in music, arts, theater and athletics. This has been done successfully in other communities. -
Maintain the Existing Ball Field
The field should continue to be enjoyed by families for years to come. -
Open Space
This is a premier central location and maintaining open space should be an important priority. The town common is often not large enough for community events and Beal would be a terrific alternative. -
Tot Playground
There is already a playground on the site and this would be an effort to improve and expand it.
